At Samsung Electronics, we’re passionate about bringing game-changing innovation and value to our enterprise customers. We’re proud to equip companies with the best-in-class retail technology solutions and services they need to increase mobility, offer seamless digital experiences, and keep their information safe.

Our landmark deal with Walmart is the perfect example. In 2021, we provided Galaxy XCover Pro smartphones to 740,000 frontline employees at Walmart.

The goal: Making Walmart’s ‘Connected Associate’ initiative a reality

Walmart approached us in the spring of 2020, when their stores were busier than ever, and associates were working hard to ensure a safe shopping experience during the pandemic. They were looking for mobile solutions for retail to help them achieve their 'Connected Associate' initiative—a vision to empower Walmart associates by placing everything they need in the palm of their hands.

Simultaneously, Walmart Global Tech was also building a new app in-house to help retail associates simplify daily tasks, serve customers, and plan for life outside of work.

We took action, shadowing associates to learn how they worked, and the tools that could help them perform better. These insights revealed the need for an agile mobile device – with Walmart’s integrated custom app – to take employee engagement and customer care to new heights.

Enter the Galaxy XCover Pro.

A new, connected way to work with the Galaxy XCover Pro

Until 2021, Walmart’s retail solutions and technologies included associates sharing company handheld devices, and using many different tools throughout their shift, from barcode scanners to walkie-talkies. However, the introduction of Samsung’s Galaxy XCover Pro enabled efficiency with entirely new workflows and options.

The Galaxy XCover Pro delivered a rugged and sleek, single-device mobile solution for retail. It’s built on Samsung’s legacy of high-powered smartphone features, including an immersive display, long-lasting battery, lightweight and durable design, and powerful camera

It also comes equipped with defense-grade security with the Samsung Knox platform, which protects associates and their devices from the chip level, up.

We also customized the Galaxy XCover Pro to provide Walmart associates with a retail technology solution they can use to improve their day – both in and out of work.

While on the clock, the Galaxy XCover Pro provides Walmart associates with new, convenient ways to work, including:

  • Mobile clock-in and clock-out
  • Easy access to schedules
  • Efficient inventory management
  • Barcode scanning with the optimized Galaxy XCover Pro camera, designed to work seamlessly with pre-existing systems at Walmart.

Additionally, during their shift, associates can tap a co-worker’s name and start a push-to-talk conversation instantly by pressing the Galaxy XCover Pro’s physical side key.

A dual-purpose mobile device for Walmart associates

Beyond its security and workflow innovations, one aspect that sets Samsung—specifically the Galaxy XCover Pro—apart is its ability to be configured for use both at work and home, offering employees a valuable perk.

“We wanted our associates to use this device all day to serve customers, but then also use it as their personal device if they chose.”
Kellie Romack, Vice President for Associate Experience and Customer Care at Walmart.

To enable this, Samsung worked with the Walmart team to customize and configure the devices to have entirely separate work and personal profiles, allowing work applications to stay secure, and personal usage to stay private.

The outcome: Better experiences for all with one device

Over the past decade, Walmart has focused on creating a seamless experience between online and in-store shopping to enhance the customer journey. Now, the company is bridging the gap between work and home to improve the employee journey.

That’s what Knox retail solutions do: help enterprises create seamless connections and provide more efficient, enjoyable experiences.

This is just the beginning of how Samsung works with enterprise customers to empower and delight employees. We are leading the industry in leveraging mobility to transform retail store operations.
